Blogging 101, A Request, and a Question!

Hello everyone!

Today's post is a bit of a hodgepodge...

First... a tip!  Thanks to Amanda @ Teaching Maddeness, I was reminded about a great blogger tip!  Did you all know that you can get an email every time someone comments on one of your posts?  It's not a default setting, but it's very easy to set up!  What's even greater is that by giving Blogger your email address, you can also reply to comments on your own blog through email.  Why is that useful?  Let me tell you!

Let's say you comment on this post and ask me a question.  Typically, I would reply to your comment by making another comment on this post.  But... unless you bookmark this post or click on "subscribe by email," you will never know that I have answered your question!  What a bummer.  Quick side note... clicking on "subscribe by email" is handy; however, then you will get an email anytime ANYONE comments on this post... which can sometimes be a lot of emails {you can always click "unsubscribe" once you are done following the post}.

Ok, let's get back to why the email option is so wonderful!  If you comment on one of my posts, I will instantly get an email.  Then, I can reply to your comment/question directly through email (it won't show up on my blog... it will go directly to your email address).  The big catch is that this will only work if you and the person who has commented have correctly added their email address to Blogger.  If you get an email comment and it comes from "no-reply," don't try to email them back because it means that they have not added their email address yet!  Does that make sense???  If so, here's what you need to do!

1) Go to your blog and click on "Design."
2) Click on "Settings"
3) Click "Mobile and Email"
4) Where it says, "Comment notification email," type in your email address!
5) Click on "Save settings" and you're done!

Now, stop reading my blog and go follow those steps so we can all start replying through email!!!  If you want to see if it worked, leave me a comment and I will reply through email :-)

Next up, request time!  I am nearing 100 followers... wow!!!  I want to do a fun little giveaway, but... I have no idea what I'm doing.  I've seen a lot of people using Rafflecopter.  Is that the new preferred method, rather than a random number generator?  Also, how do all of you get lovely bloggers to donate products to your giveaway?  Ummm... maybe I can make a request on here... anyone want to donate a product to my giveaway?  {Not very discreet, I know!}  Feel free to email me at ktbailin@gmail.com.

Last but not least, a question!  Summer caught up with me and I didn't check my Google Reader feed for a day and a half {gasp!}.  I checked it this evening and had missed 157 blog posts... In.a.day.and.a.half!  Ohmyword.  As a new blogger, what tips do you all have for keeping up with blogging?  I didn't think that I follow that many blogs, but perhaps I do??  How do you all stay on top of the blogger world?  Help me!!!

  1. I find the rafflecopter to be a lot easier for you and for the people entering the giveaway. I don't always keep up with my blogging and I've learned to be okay with that (there was some therapy involved lol)! I've been at over 1000 unread posts before. I'll read some but then click the "mark all as read" button so I don't feel as overwhelmed!

And I would love to donate to your giveaway!

  4. I also use rafflecopter. It actually incorporates random number generator. I liked it because I can setup all the parameters and each entry your follower makes can count as more entries depending on how you set it up. It's pretty cool and you just embed the code. And lastly, I emailed a couple gals to donate. I have no idea how some get big companies to donate things, but lucky them! I'd be happy to offer something if you like. Just lemme know! Happy blogging and congrats. It's addictive. Oh-I have the feeddler app on my ipad and iphone to read blog on the go!

  7. We are using rafflecopter right now for our 100 followers giveaway and it's a really fun way to do a giveaway! My partner in crime, Lisen, set it up. She said it was really easy to do (we had been VERY intimidated by it). You should definitely try it out!
As for having people join in your giveaway, we just blogged about it. We had some very gracious volunteers and of course, we will be waiting to repay them when they need us :)
Speaking of participating, we would LOVE to donate an item from our Tpt store when you are ready! Just e-mail us at secondgradesmartypants@gmail.com
Hitting 100 followers is such a great feeling!!! We want to be part of your celebration :)
