Welcome to EduKate and Inspire!

As Babbling Abby would say... stop the world... I finally have a teaching blog!

I have a confession.  If you have a teaching blog, I have probably been stalking you for one two years {maybe longer!} I have been so inspired by everything that is now available for teachers online.  Back when I was student teaching, I remember scouring online forums for ideas.  Now, there are such amazing online resources available to teachers! After the prompting of many teacher friends, I have finally decided to come out of the shadows and create a blog of my own!

And now, a little about me!  This is me {and my class from this past year}.  We were on our Ice Cream Field Trip!  Yep, you read that right.  Each year, after we finish our Economics Unit, we walk through town and buy some ice cream.  Best field trip ever. {By the way, in case you're not sure yet, my favorite food is ice cream!}

This upcoming school year will be my fourth year teaching second grade.  I love teaching second grade because my students have just the right amount of independence, are developing a love of reading, and can begin to understand my sarcasm!  My previous experience includes one year of first grade and one year of a mixed age (pre-k and k) Montessori classroom {loved Montessori!!!}  I have a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and a master's degree in Community Counseling.  I am a licensed Professional Counselor, but currently spend all of my time teaching and haven't quite had the desire to pick up a second job yet!  My next education adventure will be to go back to grad school to pick up the courses needed to become a school counselor.  I am currently teetering between the two fields -- education and counseling -- I love teaching, but I also see the huge need to have effective school counselors.  Can't I just do both?  :)

Ok, that's enough of me.  I can't wait to start blogging!  Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Welcome to the blogging world! I agree that you will love blogging. :)

    I love being able to put my ideas out there and hopefully help or inspire some teachers. I figure it's worth it even if it only helps one. :)

    1. Thank you so much for stopping by, Colleen! I can't wait to start sharing some of my materials. Sharing with my teammates has helped me to justify the amount of time I put into my creations, so I am excited to be able to help even more people. And, I can guarantee you are helping more than one ;)

  11. I love the name of your blog and I believe that should be the job of every teacher....not to just teach a curriculum but to also touch a heart. That is kind of what my blog is about too! =)

    The counseling part of you might like Conscious Discipline (I share about it on my blog). It is amazing and is all about building the School Family. It is also based on problem solving and teaching the children the skills and words they need to solve problems. The best thing about it is how it starts with us and the power of our words and attitude. =)

    I am your newest follower and I would love for you to come and visit me when you get the chance.
