Weekend Update!

Hey all!  I’m back!  Before I could even recuperate from the Whole Brain Teaching conference last week {posted about here and here}, I headed out to Chicago for the Midwest Conference on Differentiated Instruction!  I went with two of my teaching friends and had a wonderful time... but… my head is about to explode with information, ideas, and to-do’s!  When I felt like I couldn’t possibly process anything else, I literally spent one whole session at the conference creating more to-do lists for myself!  Eeek!

I am glad to be back, but folks, I need your help!  It’s action week.  Can you all do me a favor and not post anything this week, so I can save some time in my day?  Ok, thanks, you’re the best! Seriously, if I don’t start getting some tasks done, there is no way I am going to be ready for the year! {Ok ok, I’ll be ready either way… but I won’t get to try any of my new ideas if I don’t get crackin’!}  I already have my first teacher meeting of the year NEXT WEEK!!  Ahhhhh!!!

Ok, speaking of lists, here we go.

1)  I have a newfound love of Chicago {I already want to go back again!}.  I am from a small suburb in Northwest Ohio.  Chicago is eye opening to me!  Isn’t it amazing how places can be so different?  I love the lifestyle, the architecture, the shopping, the nightlife, and the tourist traps; however, I don’t think I could live there long term!

On our first night in Chicago, we went to Howl at the Moon.  Stop.the.world.  Have you ever been there?  It’s in a lot of major cities—not just Chicago!  Howl at the Moon is a dueling piano bar.  Hands down the best bar I’ve ever been to!  Now, if you’ve read my previous posts, you already know that back in high school and college, I used to be a rock star in a few slightly horrible bands.  I played keyboard.  If teaching doesn’t work out for me someday, I have found a new calling in life!  I would love to do some piano dueling!  {so much so that I even looked at their job application… unfortunately, I don’t think my piano skills are quite up to their standards!  Also, I can’t sing.  Also, you pretty much have to play every other instrument in addition to piano.  Shoot.  I’ll keep dreaming!}  Here I am in my rock star glory days:

2) While I was in Chicago, I got my first chance to meet a few bloggers in real life!  Nothing like a spontaneous blogger meet-up!  I met Karla from Teach with a Smile {Karla is also the creator of Technology Tailgate!} and Leslie from First Grade Frenzy!  We grabbed a quick lunch at T.G.I. Friday’s between sessions.  Only problem is, I wish we could have had more time to chat!  They were both so friendly!  Check out their blogs!

3)  Stay tuned tomorrow as I post about my DI Conference take-aways!  {Right now, I need to catch up on some sleep!}  I will also be linking up to some lovely linky parties I missed out on while I was gone!

4)  Sara from Miss V’s Busy Bees is having an amazing 200 follower giveaway!  Sara is wonderful and I am thrilled to be participating in her giveaway.  I will be donating a TPT gift certificate to the winner!  There are also FOUR other gift cards in the giveaway, as well as some great products from other bloggers!  Go check it out!!!

5)  Last, but not least, I am expecting my new blog makeover any day now!  Lindsey from Sour Apple Studio has been graciously working me on the final tweaks of my design {thank goodness for designers who can graciously work with Type A customers…}  During my first week of blogging, I actually won a free blog design from Lindsey during the grand re-opening of her design website.  Check out her site if you are looking for a new design!!  I can’t wait for the big reveal!

That’s all for now!  I am looking forward to sleeping without hearing Chicago police and ambulance sirens every 3 minutes!!!  Goodnight!
