Meet Kate

Hello, I'm Kate!  I am beginning my second year as an elementary school counselor at a K-4 school in Ohio.  I am very fortunate to work at a school with diverse students, a supportive community, and a wonderful staff.  Before I became a school counselor, I spent eight years as a classroom teacher--six years in second grade, one year in first grade, and one year in a pre-primary Montessori classroom.  I have a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and a dual master's degree in School Counseling and Community Counseling.  My background in education and professional counseling has given me a strong foundation to begin developing a comprehensive school counseling program.

I created EduKate & Inspire in 2012 as a way to share ideas and collaborate with teachers in the online world.  While much of my blog is currently filled with teaching ideas, I am excited to begin connecting with other counselors!  Being a part of the blogging community has challenged me professionally and made me a stronger educator.  I am passionate about creating lessons that both educate and inspire children, which is where I got the idea for my blog name!

I love connecting with my readers!

The symbol in the image above is used throughout my blog because it holds a lot of meaning in my life.  It is a West African Adinkra symbol called Nyame Dua and stands for God's presence and protection.  I first learned about Adinkra symbols in the summer of 2011 when I spent three weeks teaching kindergarten in Ghana, Africa.  It was an amazing trip and I feel blessed to have been able to experience education in another country.  You can read more about my trip to Ghana {here}.
